At the Annunciation, the Angel Gabriel does not address Mary with the usual Hebrew greeting shalom. Instead, Gabriel’s greeting to Mary is literally a command: chaire, “rejoice.”
Rejoice, for I bring you good news!
Mary lived her life focused on Christ, and treasured His every word. Today, Mary has a mother’s care for the pilgrim Church. The rosary transports us to Mary’s side where she sets before us the mysteries of her Son. In imitation of Mary we also keep all these things and ponder them in our hearts.
Within this compact book lies a treasure of meditations for each bead of the rosary. We ask Mary to help us see and venerate each mystery through her eyes and to love them through her heart.
“Mary leads us to discover the secret of Christian joy, reminding us that Christianity is, first and foremost, euangelion, ‘good news,’ which has as its heart and its whole content the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the one Saviour of the world.”
~ Pope John Paul II
