The monastic ideal of contemplation is very much alive today. Abbot William, founder of the Maronite Monks of Adoration, recounts his own journey through the tumultuous '70s and '80s to find this ideal. Follow the abbot as he navigates through Rogerian psychology, pop theology, and mere humanistic ideologies that invaded the Church. The modern world's compromises ultimately cannot satisfy the pangs of a contemplative heart. The abbot's journey is one of finding peace with fidelity to the monastic idea of adoring the Lord.
The Maronite Monks of Adoration were canonically approved by the Vatican and established in the Eparchy of Saint Maron in 1989.
Bishop Hector Doueihi, S.T.D., in regards to the monastery’s written Typikon, wrote as follows about the “unwritten” Typicon, Jesus Christ Himself:
“The text you follow tries to express Him to you. The holy monastic fathers you chose to be your masters lead you to Him, the only Master (Jesus Christ). Remember that your greatest challenge is to be Eastern while having been born Western, that is to coincide East and West, the Syriac world and the English world, the abandonment of the desert and the mechanism of today’s life. Your call is indeed to be a sign of contradiction....”
“A Calling reminds us very clearly that the path God calls us to walk may be quite unlike the one we have planned to travel. It may be not just a path but an odyssey, and it may lead to something very different from anything we may have thought of.”
Father Benedict J. Groeschel, C.F.R.
From the Preface
“We hope that your Congregation will be a source of enrichment for the Christian life in the United States and, in particular, in our Eparchy, through your prayers and through your authentically monastic life.”
