Drawing insight from the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, When Salt Loses Its Saltiness warns us about the dangers ahead if clergy and lay leaders lose their focus. The book challenges us to prevent this undesirable situation. Appraising the new situations within and outside the Church, the author sees the solution primarily in the re-evangelisation and authentic formation of clergy and lay leaders.

If readers view this ardent book from the standpoint of an “attack” on the Church or an indictment of the clergy or hierarchy, they may miss the point. Rather, the book reveals a profound concern for the future of the Church and her mission. In seven chapters, the author explains the mission of the Church, the role of priests as the main drivers of the Church’s mission of evangelisation, and reviews the serious challenges the Church in Nigeria faces today.

When Salt Loses Its Saltiness calls for zealous shepherds and proactive lay leaders to fully implement the reign of Christ in society. It is a must read for the Church hierarchy, clergy, religious, lay faithful and all who are concerned about the present and future well-being of the Church.

For both prophet and priest ply their trade throughout the land, and have no knowledge.
~ Jer. 14:18

If the faith is in imminent peril, prelates ought to be accused by their subjects, even in public.
~ St. Thomas Aquinas

“This reflection put together by Rev. Monsignor Paschal Nwaezeapu is long overdue. In this work, we witness a soulful, proactive response to an imminent crisis-situation facing the Catholic Church in Nigeria. The author expresses an uncommon candour that bears witness to truth of believers thirsty for focused shepherds and committed servant-leaders. This book is a bold attempt to initiate a change of attitude in priests and laity over our attention to evangelisation.”
~ Anthony Okeregbe, Ph.D., University of Lagos

“The book is compelling and challenging for the clergy not only in Nigeria, but all over the world.”
~ Laura Rayes, Arizona, U.S.A.
