Details
For ten-year-old Pauline and her sisters, every day was an adventure. Growing up in a small town in Colorado during the 1950s brought many joys and sufferings for the Montoya family.
Autumn was Pauline’s favorite season, with welcome heat from the coal-burning furnace and the aroma from the wood stove of baked applies, cinnamon rolls, roasted pine nuts, and apple butter—Mother’s favorite jam.
Their farmhouse didn’t come with indoor plumbing, so to the outhouse they would venture despite all types of weather.
Through it all, this loving Catholic family grew with enduring stability in an era of rapid change.
