Love thy neigbor as thyself
The Catholic Church saved nearly a million Jewish people from the Holocaust, more than all the other international relief organizations put together. Yet today, many Catholic heroes of the Holocaust remain largely anonymous, even though many of them paid the price of their lives for their good works and their clear consciences.
“I know from personal experience ... how dangerous and heroic it was in those times to help Jews and save them from death.” ~Rabbi József Schweitzer, (at the beatification Mass of Sister Sára Salkaházi, 2006)
Forgotten Heroes brings to life the stories of these Catholic heroes who risked and often sacrificed their lives to rescue their Jewish brothers and sisters during World War II in Nazi occupied Europe. These heroes experienced a constant fear of being betrayed by their neighbors and even family members, which required them to frequently move from place to place in order to avoid detection.
