What does it mean to be a priest?
The ministerial priesthood calls forth not only a deep spirituality, but every skill a man possesses. Priestly identity is not simply what a man does but what he is: another Christ. Faithful in Christ is a series of reflections for anyone interested in the priesthood. The reflections are both practical and ideal—as with priestly ministry itself.
“Faithful in Christ goes to the core of priestly identity and touches upon some of the most significant areas involved in its ongoing renewal. One of its underlying themes deals with the importance of spiritual formation as the unifying principle of priestly life and ministry. Another is the way a priest’s personal relationship with Christ affects the manner in which he lives and conducts his priestly ministry. ...”
+ His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, From the Foreword
“...priests will find in these presentations, together with the reflection questions and suggested readings, a fruitful source for discussion, study and prayer. All the faithful and the community at large will find here a window into the enriching and inspiring reality of the Catholic priesthood and of what is behind, or better, within, the men who daily strive to live as ‘Holy Priests for a Holy People.’”
+ Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia
“At a time when many eyes are fixed upon the ugliness of priestly scandal, eyes of faith submit anew to the ever-soft light of grace, which illumines an undiminished beauty of priestly ministry and life, willed by Jesus, shared with men, bringing life to the world. The present work, the fruit of a conference at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary during the ‘Year for Priests,’ ably presents the priesthood needed for our age and for every age. It is a timely glimpse of a timeless call that is lived in time.”
Rev. Shaun L. Mahoney, S.T.D.Rector, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
