Conversations with Joe was an interesting book, with firsthand accounts of people who knew Joe Gosse'. The book takes place in the area surrounding Allentown, Pennsylvania, and it would mean more to readers who are familiar with that vicinity. However, just as you don't have to live in Salinas or Monterey to enjoy John Steinbeck's stories about that area, the same holds true for Ron Shegda's book. Just as the Salinas residents got an extra treat from Steinbeck's stories, so will the residents of the Allentown area have a little extra joy over Shegda's book.
